Insect Repellent Spray

March 2, 2022

For those of you who would like a little extra customisation for your bug spray, I will share my recipe with you! Terrashield/TerraArmour Outdoor Spray is great as an insect repellant, but if you want a slightly different smell or have a different purpose, then you can easily make your own!

For 30ml spray bottles:

10 Drops of Peppermint

8 Drops of Eucalyptus

5 Drops of Lemon Eucalyptus

5 Drops of Citronella

5 Drops of Cedarwood (any wood oil)

2 Drops of Arborvitae

1TBS of Fractionated Coconut Oil

1TBS of Witch Hazel

Fill the rest with Water. Alternatively, you can fill the rest of the bottle with Fractionated Coconut Oil instead.

Other oils you can include or swap oils that you don’t like: Spearmint, Litsea, Lemongrass, Lemon Myrtle, Tea Tree, Siberian Fir, Wood Oils (Buddha Wood, Sandalwood) and Patchouli.

Customising options:

Spiders: Add Geranium and more Eucalyptus.

Ants: Add Clove, more Peppermint and/or Spearmint. Check out post on repelling ants.

Mosquitoes: Add more Peppermint and Lemongrass.

Bed Bugs: Add a couple drops of oregano oil and siberian fir.

Flies: Add Rosemary and Lavender.

Slugs/Snails: Add Cedarwood and Patchouli.

Ticks: Add Lavender and Lemongrass.

Lice: See my post on lice/nits.

** Note: Oils like Arborvitae, Lemon Eucalyptus, Lemongrass, Lemon Myrtle and Citronella can be a little hot for sensitive skin. So you can adjust it accordingly, and dilute with more Fractionated Coconut Oil.

Don’t forget to shake the bottle well before spraying!
